On Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 3pm, Music at St. Paul’s will present a service of Advent Lessons & Carols. Featuring the Choirs of St. Paul’s, under the direction of Dr. Paul Cienniwa, the service will include music by Gibbons, Palestrina, Vaughan Williams and others, along with traditional Advent carols.
“The Episcopal Church has a long-standing tradition of Lessons & Carols services for both the Advent and Christmas seasons,” says Director of Music Ministries Dr. Paul Cienniwa. “The season of Advent is made up of the four Sundays before Christmas, and, as this service will take place during that time, it will focus on music and readings (lessons) that foretell the birth of Jesus. Musically speaking, some of the best music is for the Advent season, so I am excited to present St. Paul’s Adult and Youth Choirs at this special time of year.
“Another feature of this service is how we move from darkness to light, both literally and figuratively. As the readings and music take us through the prophetic stories of the coming of the Messiah, candles will be lit throughout the church. We will come into the light as the story of Advent becomes the foundation of the Christmas story.”
The service is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. For more information on this event and Music at St. Paul’s 30th Anniversary Season, visit music.stpaulsdelray.org. St. Paul’s is handicapped accessible.
