Randy Arozarena continued his hot streak in the leadoff position for the Cardinals as he hit a double and a triple to push the Cardinals towards a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Yankees, also giving the Beach Bird the series win 3-1.

Zac Gallen started on the mound for Dann Bilardello’s squad, and went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, striking out eight batters and walking one other.

Media 5It looked like the Cardinals would strike first early when Arozarena hit a double to leadoff the game. He got to third on a sacrifice bunt from Casey Turgeon, but would not score as Jeremy Martinez popped out and Chris Chinea grounded out, snuffing out the leadoff double.

Tampa jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, as Nick Solak hit a one out double through the hole at shortstop. Solak got to third on a passed ball and scored when Jhalan Jackson hit a single to right field.

The Cardinals would not score in the game until the sixth inning. Luke Dykstra got things going with a single to right. He came around to score when Arozarena tripled down the left field line. Arozarena crossed the plate when Martinez hit a fly ball in foul territory and the right fielder, Jhalan Jackson, got it against the wall, allowing Arozarena to score and take the lead.

The Cardinals grabbed another run in the seventh to go up 3-1. Edmundo Sosa hit a single to shallow center. He stole second base and the ball got away from shortstop, Jorge Mateo, allowing Sosa to go to third. As he was running to third, Jackson threw it away giving Sosa the chance to trot home.

Dailyn Martinez came in to pitch fresh off the airplane from Peoria and pitched 1.1 innings, giving up just one hit, walking one and striking out one.

Landon Beck came in to close the game out in the ninth and things got a little interesting. Trey Amburgey hit a bullet to left-center to get a double. He advanced on a fly ball from Matt Snyder to third and scored on a wild pitch pulling the Yankees to within a run at 3-2. Beck settled down striking out Solak and got Vicente Conde to fly out to center to preserve the 3-2 victory.
