Competition is always stiff at the South Florida Fair’s Rock Tribute Band Competition. Now in its ninth year, the following South Florida bands have been selected to perform a 30-minute set on the Coca Cola stage, as follows, on Sat., Jan. 27:
2 p.m. – Gimi Jimi – Jimi Hendrix Tribute Band
3 p.m. – Crush ‘n’ Roses – Guns and Roses Tribute band
4 p.m. – ZZ’s Best – ZZ Top Tribute Band
5 p.m. – The Petty Hearts – “America’s Definitive Tom Petty Tribute Band”
6 p.m. – Smokin’ – A Tribute to Boston
7 p.m. – Saturday Night Special – Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band
8 p.m. – Winner performs a 45-minute set
The competition judges are Leslie Streeter, entertainment writer with The Palm Beach Post; Larry Popowich of Larry Luvs Music, a booking management agency; and Luis Alas, a national recording artist/saxophonist.
The fair awards the winning band a $3,000 cash prize; $1,500 for second place; and $1,000 for third place.
