Susan G. Komen South Florida is excited to be the recipient of funds from the recent Rally for the Cure. Now in its 20th year, Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program that educates people about breast self-awareness through volunteer-organized golf and tennis events and is hosted by members of the Bear Lakes Country Club Women’s Golf Association.
The daylong event consists of a golf tournament, a luncheon, live and silent auctions and drawings.
Over the last 20 years, the Association has donated more than $500,000 to Susan G. Komen South Florida to support the organization’s mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in local communities, and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. Rallies such as this one have generated over $80 million for Susan G. Komen to help educate more than 1 million people about the importance of early detection
“The women of the Bear Lakes Country Club Golf Association have dedicated themselves to helping us educate and empower women of all ages to trust their bodies and to get regular mammograms and screenings,” shared Kate, Watt. Susan G. Komen South Florida Executive Director. “Education and early detection are critical to helping Komen reach its Bold Goal to reduce the nation’s 40,000 breast cancer deaths by 50% by 2026.”
Monies from the Rally will serve men and women locally by enabling Komen to offer life-saving services to provide education, early detection, mammograms and treatment for women and men in need. In addition, monies will support critical research through the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program, impacting breast cancer patients locally, and around the world, especially for women suffering from the most lethal forms of the disease.
