Boynton Recreation offers sports programs for kids of all ages

The City of Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Department advocates a healthy lifestyle throughout all of the programs and services they offer. In order to help build a healthier, stronger community, it must start with kids! Organized sports are a great way for kids to get out and get moving. By being part of a team, they learn invaluable skills that will serve them all throughout their lives.

The Boynton Beach Tennis Center offers lessons for children ages 3-12 on Monday afternoons. Whiz Kids, offered from 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for ages 3-5, helps little ones develop fundamental motor skills that transcend all sports. Tennis FUNdamentals for ages 5-8 (4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.) and ages 9-12 (5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.) is based on the USTA Florida Youth Tennis Pathway’s “Play to Learn” approach. Fall sessions offered this fall are Oct. 23 through Nov. 13 and Nov. 27 through Dec. 18.  The cost per session is as follows: ages 3-5, $40 for residents and $50 for nonresidents; ages 5-8, $48 for residents and $60 nonresidents; ages 9-12, $60 for residents and $75 nonresidents.

Soccer is a great sport for kids to learn at an early age! Soccer Shots at Intracoastal Park takes place on Saturday mornings through Dec. 12 with two groups, one for ages 2-3 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and the other for ages 4-6 from 10:05 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Participants will gain an increased understanding of team dynamics and skills development. The cost is $120 for residents and $150 for nonresidents. The Tot Soccer League at Sims Center holds games on Wednesdays starting Oct. 4 through Dec. 6 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for ages 3-5. The League, available for $40 for residents and $50 for nonresidents, is a great way for kids to learn the proper techniques of kicking and throwing the ball into play.

Karate is offered for ages 5 to adult at the Boynton Beach Civic Center for those looking to learn the basics of traditional Karate and all of the benefits that come with the practice. Classes are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with Beginner level (ages 5-15) from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Intermediate level (ages 5-15) from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., and Adult level (ages 16+) from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Fall sessions are offered Oct. 9 through Nov. 16 and  Nov. 20 through Dec. 28. The cost per session is $99 for residents and $124 for nonresidents.

Two basketball programs will take place later in the fall at Ezell Hester Community Center. Itty-Bits Basketball for ages 3-5 begins Nov. 1 and goes until Dec. 6 with classes on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Itty-Bits introduces the fundamentals of the game in a non-competitive environment. The cost is $40 for residents or $50 for nonresidents. The Youth Basketball League for ages 5-14 kicks off practices in December from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with games beginning in January from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  The League teaches basketball basics where kids can enjoy organized play with friends. The cost for each age group is $51 for residents and $64 for nonresidents. Ages 5-7 meet on Mondays from Dec. 11 through March 12, ages 8-9 meet on Tuesdays from Dec. 12 through March 13 and ages 10-14 meet on Wednesdays from Dec. 12 through March 14.

Gymnastics helps kids develop strength, flexibility and coordination in a fun environment! Gold Coast Gymnastics offers two classes at the Ezell Hester Community Center, one for ages 4-7 on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and the other for ages 8-12 on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The cost per session is $66 for residents and $83 for nonresidents. The next session runs Nov. 11 through Dec. 23.
