City of Boca Raton offers educational city-wide scavenger hunt for kids

Children ages 5-12 can explore the City’s award-winning facilities in a month-long, city-wide scavenger hunt with the STEAM through September initiative. The collaboration between the Children’s Science Explorium at Sugar Sand Park, the Boca Raton Public Library and Gumbo Limbo Nature Center will provide engaging activities and exhibits at each of the locations focusing on (S)cience, (T)echnology, (E)ngineering, (A)rt and (M)ath.

Children can earn passport stamps at each of the participating locations by completing STEAM challenges. Once they have completed a challenge in each of the five STEAM categories, they will be eligible to collect a prize!

“Our goal with STEAM through September is to go a little deeper and offer exciting programs to inspire the next generation.” explained Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Manager, Leanne Welch.  “Junior marine biologists can work on math skills as they learn to help the patients in our sea turtle rehabilitation facility. Future artists can explore paintings and drawings at the Boca Raton Libraries and young builders can create and test amazing contraptions at the Children’s Science Explorium.  Each location offers hands-on, exciting educational opportunities.”

The passport can be picked up at participating locations and features all of the registration information and exhibits happening throughout the month of September. Passports can also be downloaded at www.scienceexplorium.org/steam.

Some programs require pre-registration and/or fees.  Class size and/or supplies may be limited.  All five stamps are required to receive prizes, and all prizes must be claimed by October 13, 2017 at any participating facility.
