The Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Celebration of Education Breakfast on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 8 to 9:30 am to a sold-out crowd of over 230 attendees. The breakfast was held at Delray Beach Golf Club, 2200 Highland Blvd, Delray Beach.
Originating in the 1970s, this breakfast is one of the Chamber’s most meaningful and rewarding events. Attendees welcomed brand new teachers to the Delray Beach schools this year, heard from Principals about their challenges and successes and got a feel for Delray Beach’s education system. All Delray Beach Principals and new teachers were showered with “Oprah Moment” gifts: backpacks filled with school supplies, flowers, and gift cards. “Oprah Moment” sponsors included: Source1 Purchasing, Office Depot, Caron Renaissance/Ocean Drive, Professional Security Consultants and Monthly Express.
The keynote speaker, Bill Bone, who is this year’s Education Foundation of Palm Beach County “Outstanding Graduate” recipient, inspired the audience with his talk on Grit and Gratitude. Dr. Robert Avossa, Superintendent of Palm Beach County School District, gave updates on the new school year and thanked the teachers and Principals for their dedication to students.
The event was sponsored by FPL, CenterState Bank, Stuart & Shelby Development, Inc., JM Lexus,
FAU Foundation, Floridian Community Bank, John Peters of State Farm, Delray Beach Realtor Roundtable, Sandler Training, Young Dentistry and Apex Insurance.
A special thank you to Suzanne Spencer, Vice Chair of Education and Patty Reed, Program Director for the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce who co-produced the event.
