My name is Kelly Goodman, and I’ve been working at Fright Nights since 2007.
Through out the years, I’ve been inspired by so many things that have helped me along the way.
This season I am co-designing my fifth haunt called the Cuckoo’s Nest, along with my husband, and operations manager Alex Rodriguez. I have been wanting to do an Insane Asylum for the longest time, but it just kept getting pushed back every year when new ideas and concepts would arise.
The inspiration behind this haunt came from American Horror Story season 2, Asylum. When I first saw it, I literally fell in love. The dark and dreariness of the setting itself has stuck with me ever since.
Another main reason for the Cuckoo’s Nest is that I want to show where my character, Misfit, came from. I wrote the storyline for the haunt based off of how she made her way into the Asylum, giving as little detail about her as possible.
Coming up with Misfit was a lot of fun! Last summer I was collecting a bunch of old band t-shirts and patches and wanted to do something with them. So I started sewing the logos onto an old pair of pants and Boy Scout vest that I found while thrift shopping. While tailoring up the outfit, I realized that this character would become an alter ego that I can actually mess around with at Fright Nights, where it would be considered “Normal.” I wanted her to be different and to stand out from the other characters; plus, who doesn’t like clowns!?
This season we will be having 4 brand new haunts, including the Cuckoo’s Nest, two new scare zones, along with some more tricks and treats up our sleeves!
Stay tuned to Palm Beach Happening for more details as they become available.
