One of the scariest characters of the horror genre is the psychotic killer. The one who seems almost normal, but who has some peculiarities that make them more dangerous than all the others. At Enigma Haunt, the one you have to look out for is Sammy!
Do you like scary movies?
I love a well written psychological thriller that unfolds like a Shakespearian tragedy, where despite all the twists and turns, the ending is inevitable because of who the characters are.
What inspired you to become a scareactor?
Scareacting is fun. Simple as that. It’s a chance to explore different aspects of our humanity, and play with different perceptions and emotions. I enjoy bringing people into the world I create, and letting them enjoy it with me – even if it feels uncomfortable or unnerving to them at the time.
Who is your favorite Hollywood creature creator/make-up artist, and why?
Lon Chaney. I‘m a fan of the classics.
How long do you spend in make-up for the haunt, or do you always look like that?
We have a great make-up and costuming team at Enigma Haunt. I am in the make-up chair as long as they need, to make sure I am presentable to our guests.
Do you like haunted attractions? If so, which is your favorite?
I have been to haunted attractions around the world, and I love them from the smallest boo house for kids to the most elaborate terror haunts. Enigma Haunt is definitely one of the best. The creators here have crafted a more personal experience than commercial haunts usually allow for.
What is your motivation for your character?
I like to change things up a bit each night. Having different objectives allows me to explore the character and keep him fresh.
There are many different scare techniques used at haunted attractions. How do you do it?
I try to create the reality of the character. When I create my reality, and bring guests in, they are more susceptible to allowing their own imaginations complete the scares we start.
What can fans expect from your part of Enigma Haunt?
Fans and first time guests can expect a great time. We want guests to enjoy the world we’ve created. There are screams, laughs, and the thrill of that feeling in the back of your head that there may just be more to this world than you usually allow yourself to believe.
What inspired you to run for President of Fear?
With all the strong feelings surrounding the actual election process, Enigma Haunt wanted to offer a fun alternative, a place where people of all affiliations could come together and enjoy an election. You have four characters and can debate the merits of each for the sheer tomfoolery of it. I have yet to see anyone get into a heated argument over whether Jed or Otto would be a better President of Fear.
What advice would you give someone interested in working in a haunted attraction?
Do it. Find a local Haunt, and jump right in. I guarantee you will learn more about yourself, and your confidence will grow. All it takes is the willingness to step out of your box and explore. Oh, and don’t forget to keep hydrated.
Celebrating its 5th year, Enigma Haunt, 1751 N. Military Trail, was just ranked #1 in Top Haunts in Florida and voted as #2 nationally in The Scare Factor’s 31 Must See Haunt List, the only other Florida haunt making that national list came in at #17. Enigma Haunt is also currently ranked in the top 10 haunted attractions by USA Today’s “10 Best” feature, voting ends at the end of the month.
