The undead have become restless in the Palm Beaches once again, as more and more haunted attractions have slowly begun to reveal the evil that lies within. Perhaps it was the fury of Irma that woke them from their unearthly slumber, or maybe it was the need for fresh meat? Either way, they have arisen!
On Thursday, October 5, hundreds of demented souls fought the horrors of Southern Boulevard traffic to get a taste of the pain that awaits them during the 2017 season of Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Led by Eggman, Dr. Gooch, and their evil minions, the (un)suspecting visitors were able to learn a bit more about what goes into the design and construction of each of their four houses; the Cuckoo’s Nest, where twisted patients have taken over the asylum; Shutter, a demented look through a killer’s lens; Necromantia, a sadistic alchemist practicing the forbidden dark art of necromancy; and Occultus, entering the mysterious world of the occult, where witches and shamans practice their craft. Even characters from the haunts, such as Misfit and Massara, were on hand to try and scare the last bit of happiness from their slowly beating hearts.
For those of you who’d like to try to gain admittance to the event without having to empty your pocketbook, you’re in luck! Click here to find out how to win a family four pack of tickets to take in the haunt yourself!

The lure of how Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds comes together even beckoned some of the scareactors from Enigma Haunt to the event, including Sammy Days and Jed the Butcher. For those of you who’ve been to both events (or plan to) be on the lookout for some homages to each other.
Enigma Haunt enters their second week of spooking you (almost) to death tonight in Boca Raton. Be sure to check out our review of their opening night here!
Palm Beach Happening looks forward to bringing you highlights from many of the spookiest spots in South Florida. On the eighth, we voyage across the state to attend Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Tampa. On October 14, we will be checking out X-Scream Halloween at G-Star. We might also be heading up to the Orlando area to experience the Shallow Grave! If we survive, we’ll let you know all the gory details!
Remember that Halloween is a time for fun and frivolity. It is a time to come out of your shell, and to acknowledge the mischievous spirit that resides within all of us. Be sure to keep following this column for news on other spooky events and more. If you know of another local event that needs additional undead light shone upon it, please let us know!
