Humane Society seeks to gift 180 pets to veterans on Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday, a global day of giving driven by the power of social media and collaboration, will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast will begin collecting donations on Nov. 22 and will continue through #GivingTuesday. The goal of its #GivingTuesday #Cause4aCause Campaign is to raise $90,000 to gift 180 pets to local veterans in time for the holiday season.

In any given month, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast houses and cares for an average of 180 to 200 animals. It costs nearly $500 to provide food, routine medical care, and the adoption fee for one animal.

“To be able to give 180 pets to veterans this holiday season, the humane society needs to raise $90,000,” said Corporate Gifts Officer Candace Callahan. “Veterans were chosen as the benefactors because Florida has the third largest veteran population in the nation with almost 1.8 million calling Florida home.”

The focus is to showcase how pets support the wellbeing of veterans and raised awareness for the need to provide companionship for the area’s local veterans, particularly during the holiday season.

Callahan added, “Giving Tuesday is about giving to nonprofits. The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast wanted to join in the giving this year by using Giving Tuesday as a vehicle to raise the funds required for us to be able to give to those in need in our community as well.”
