Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County Announces Powerful 2018-2019 Season of Events Featuring Internationally-Recognized Comedian

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County announced an impressive and diverse lineup for its 2018-2019 season of philanthropic, social and educational events. Highlights include a season kickoff event headlined by entertainer Howie Mandel; a musical performance by  Mandy Gonzalez, star of Broadway’s Hamilton; inspiring programs for women, including a luncheon featuring Jodi Kantor, the journalist who was part of the team that broke the story that sparked the #MeToo movement; an exciting new lineup of featured speakers and exhibits in the highly acclaimed series on antisemitism and the Holocaust; and community-wide volunteer projects for Hanukkah, Passover and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“This season we are incredibly proud to present insightful and diverse thought leaders and their perspectives on Jewish life, artistic expression and history. At the same time, we are focused on bringing community members together to address the causes they are most passionate about locally and around the globe,” shared Michael Hoffman, President and CEO, Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County.

During its Community Campaign Kickoff event, Jewish Federation will welcome internationally-recognized entertainer and Emmy Award nominee Howie Mandel. Mandel is a comedian, television producer and is in his ninth year as judge on NBC’s hit talent competition series America’s Got Talent. The dessert reception takes place at the Breakers Hotel on Palm Beach Tuesday, December 18, 2018 and will bring together community members to pledge their commitment to Federation’s 2019 Annual Campaign.

On February 4, 2019 Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy will host a thought-provoking discussion with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist, Jodi Kantor at the Lion of Judah Luncheon: A Celebration of Women’s Philanthropy. Kantor will share how she and her colleagues broke the story of producer Harvey Weinstein’s decades of alleged abuse of women – exposing systemic harassment across industries and energizing a radical shift in attitudes across the globe.

Guests to the new Major Gifts Event: Celebrating Philanthropy on Monday, March 4, 2019 will delight in a dazzling performance by the star of Broadway’s Hamilton: The Musical, Mandy Gonzalez. Gonzalez will also share enlightening stories of growing up in a Jewish and Mexican-American home. Community leader and local philanthropist William A. Meyer will be honored with Jewish Federation’s prestigious Jeanne Levy community leadership award.

The Gross Family Center for the Study of Antisemitism and the Holocaust 2018-2019 Speaker Series returns with more than a dozen engaging speakers, workshops and art exhibitions that explore the experiences and consequences of antisemitism, racism and violations of human rights. In 2017-2018, the series brought together over 3,000 attendees.

Eight Days of Giving Back

Eight Days of Giving Back invites community members to celebrate Hanukkah by engaging in meaningful volunteer activities in the Palm Beaches. Hosted by Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center, activities include packing meals for the needy and other community services. Throughout the eight days of Hanukkah there are additional volunteer opportunities open to the public that are hosted by Federation cohorts throughout the community. On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, the Jewish Volunteer Center is coordinating volunteers to participate in a collection, sorting and packing effort for a local organization that deals with issues facing homelessness, hunger or foster care. After the volunteer efforts there will be a Hanukkah celebration for volunteers. Women who are committed to impacting the Jewish community of the Palm Beaches are invited to join together for this exclusive celebration in support of Women’s Philanthropy. The event features exciting card play and a lovely luncheon with a unique opportunity to purchase a variety of beautiful pieces during a boutique shopping experience.  Fun, food, a raffle and prizes will round out this exciting day. Couvert is $180 for the luncheon, shopping and cards, or $75 for the luncheon and shopping.

Lion of Judah Luncheon: A Celebration of Women’s Philanthropy

The event honors the generosity of the dedicated community of women in the Palm Beaches who contribute to Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s 2019 Annual Campaign and features guest speaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jodi Kantor. Kantor is an investigative reporter for The New York Times and best-selling author who broke the Harvey Weinstein story which sparked the #MeToo movement. This luncheon is open to women who are Lions of Judah, Step-Up or Elsewhere Lions of Judah, or those who have created a Lion of Judah Endowment.
