Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2018 Man & Woman of the Year Candidates Mark Progress at Mid-Point Celebration, April 24

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Palm Beach Area Chapter will cheer on the progress being made by its 2018 Man & Woman of the Year campaign candidates at its Mid-Point Celebration at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.

The campaign, which runs from March 8 – May 19, is a chance for 20 local change makers to play a significant role in the fight against blood cancers. Halfway through their fundraising and awareness-raising endeavors, the candidates will enjoy being styled by Brioni and Emilio Pucci before celebrating at Contessa Gallery, 247 Worth Avenue, Palm Beach, Fla.

“Our candidates are doing an amazing job of sharing the mission and work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and it’s time to share their successes thus far,” said Pam Payne, Executive Director of the LLS Palm Beach Area Chapter. “It requires commitment and focus to raise money for lifesaving cancer research, and we want them to feel our appreciation with some pampering and an elegant party in their honor.”

Candidates were selected for their community service and dedication to finding a cure. The candidates who raise the most money will win the local title and go on to compete for national honors. Last year, the Man & Woman of the Year campaign raised almost $1.3 million for blood cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy. This year’s fundraising is in honor of two patient heroes, the 2018 Boy & Girl of the Year, 8-year-old Zachariah, a survivor of Burkitt’s lymphoma, and 16-year-old Brianna, a survivor of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

“New treatments have recently been approved by the FDA and the Man & Woman of the Year campaign monies are helping to find cures, treatment options, and so much more,” said Payne.
