“A Magical Night to Fight Hunger” To Benefit The Palm Beach County Food Bank

When one in six people in Palm Beach County don’t know where their next meal will come from, finding ways to feed local children, the elderly and families in hunger crisis is a key priority. On September 27, 2018 at 6 p.m., Downtown at the Gardens and the Palm Beach County Food Bank are joining forces to host “A Magical Night to Fight Hunger.” The benefit for the Food Bank will raise awareness and funding to address the hunger crisis for local residents.

The Palm Beach County Food Bank collects, recovers and distributes food to local soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters. According to Food Bank Executive Director Karen Erren, last year more than 200 local community partners helped to distribute nearly 5 million pounds of food to combat the hunger crisis in Palm Beach County.

“But, there is a nearly 55-million-pound shortfall between what we distribute and what is needed for all county residents to be food secure,” said Erren. “We need continued support from events like ‘A Magical Night’ to enable us to reach more hungry children, more elderly and more families who often don’t know where they will get their next meal. We are so grateful to partner with Downtown at the Gardens for this wonderful event to bridge that gap and reach more families with critical assistance.”

The evening will feature a progressive three-course dinner under the stars, along with a strolling magician and other surprises. Tickets are $75 per person and proceeds will benefit the Palm Beach County Food Bank. In addition, 10 percent of proceeds from the carousel rides in September will be donated to the Food Bank. There will also be a month-long food drive in September which the public is invited to donate non-perishable food items at a collection site at Downtown at the Gardens.

“Our corporate philanthropic initiative focuses on hunger,” said Erin Devlin, Shopping Center Marketing Manager for ShopCore Properties, the owner/manager entity for Downtown at the Gardens. “We invite the community to join our efforts to call attention to this critical issue in Palm Beach County and raise funds for our Food Bank, which helps more than 100,000 local neighbors each month who are hungry.”
