Resident Stars of Devonshire Recognized for Sharing Their Talents

The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, also known as the Tony Award, first debuted in 1947 and was presented for superior achievement in Broadway theatre. Tony Awards are bestowed for excellence in categories such as Best Costume Design, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Choreography. This summer, Devonshire at PGA National hosted their own recognition event – The Devonshire Tony Awards – and presented residents with awards based on the extraordinary talents they share with the community. Residents received awards in eight different categories: Best Late Night Host, Best Daytime Hostess, Best Original Story, Best Adaptation of a Novel, Outstanding Photography, Best Cinematography Historian, Best Original Food Show, and Most Natural Performance.

The Best Original Story award was presented to the editorial team who faithfully coordinates the publication of The Devonshire Times, a newsletter for residents of the community. The newsletter shares upcoming activities, photos, and stories of new residents, and reflections from around the community. Resident Morris Glazer received the Outstanding Photography award for his dedication to capturing images of the events and entertainment hosted across campus, and Most Natural Performance awards were presented to the residents who coordinated the implementation of a chef’s herb garden at Devonshire. The herb garden is home to fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables, which can often be found as part of the culinary selections at the community’s five distinct restaurants. Other residents received awards for their talents in managing community film showings, the Devonshire library, and the coordination of a culinary newsletter.

At the end of the awards ceremony, residents of the community presented Irene Malanga, Director of Activities at Devonshire, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Malanga has worked at Devonshire for nearly 15 years and coordinates the special trips, entertainment, and monthly activities at the community.

“She is the heart and soul behind so many of Devonshire’s wonderful achievements over the years,” said Marty Bores, Director of Resident Services.
