Spring Brings Programming, a New Traveling Exhibit, and a Grand Opening to the Children’s Science Explorium

The new spring season at the Children’s Science Explorium at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton kicks off with fun & educational programs, an all-new traveling exhibit, and the grand opening of the Science Garden. From Cool Crystals and Nanobots to Bee-utiful Pollinators, the Explorium is the perfect place to “get your science.”

Programming in the Explorium includes Early Afternoon Explorers, a monthly program that allows home-schoolers the opportunity to participate in fun, social and hands-on activities on an educational topic and Explorium Science Squad, where kids work as a team to discover something remarkable. During Friday Night at the Museum, kids enjoy access to the Explorium “after hours” plus pizza, a movie, and a themed experiment. This drop-off program gives parents a night out as well. Sign up for a full season (Jan-May) in one transaction for Early Afternoon Explorers, Explorium Science Squad or Friday Night at the Museum and receive a free Explorer Science Kit, featuring a lunch bag, five different science experiments, and an Explorium pencil.

Other programs include:

· Expedition: Sugar Sand Park Science Playground gives children ages 5-12 an opportunity to experience the scientific principles found within the Sugar Sand Park Science Playground.

· On the first Sunday of every month, kids can create something fantastic (from crystal bath fizzies to bughouses) to take home at the Make & Take Program.

· Weekends mean free Science Stories shared by the staff and the monthly Weekend Demos, where audience participation is needed to dig a little deeper into exciting scientific principles.

On February 1, the Explorium will unveil a new hands-on traveling exhibit called It’s a Nano World. This exhibit kicks off a season-long exploration where both children and adults can delve into the micro-world around us. Guests will separate cells in a giant Cell Sorter, play Giant DNA, Dust & Germ Pinball, zoom into your own hair and skin, measure your height in nanometers, and more. The Explorium is offering an exclusive sneak peek of this exhibit on Friday, January 26 from 7-9pm. Guests can take part in demonstrations; learn about upcoming programs, and more. It’s a Nano World will show at the Children’s Science Explorium through Sunday, May 6.

The all-new 3,500 sq. ft. Science Garden will host a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, February 3 from 10am-12pm. Guest will be able to view dozens of butterfly host & nectar plant species, pose with the human-size butterfly wings, take a walk on the Discovery Trail, and enjoy make & takes, nature talks, and more. The Science Garden was a year-long project which has attracted over twenty species of butterflies for staff to identify and photograph. The garden is used for school and public programs and is also available for all museum patrons to enjoy at their leisure.
