Recently, Palm Beach Happening partnered with Waldorf Publishing to bring you insight into some of the greatest fiction and nonfiction authors of the 21st century. Today, we profile Michael Brady.
How did you get your start in the literary world? I was fortunate enough to be picked up by Waldorf publishing in the summer of 2016. Our partnership continues to be strong as readers of the series are now found throughout the international community.
Can you tell us a little more about what you do? I am a professor of intelligence and security studies at The Citadel, located in Charleston, SC. However, I spend most of my days in Jacksonville, FL writing spy novels.
What is your favorite part about being an author? It starts with the creative process. As a former career intelligence officer, I continue to see the many challenges and threats we face both here at home and abroad. They vary from climate change, infectious diseases, terror groups, and rogue nation states. My novels are set in contemporary times so it’s my ardent desire to write compelling and engaging stories that leave the reader breathless and wanting more. In addition, I try to keep the novels as realistic as possible while integrating lots of technology used by the Intelligence Community (IC). It’s a blast and I hope your audience decides to buy the book(s) and support the series.
How do you get your inspiration? Part of why I write is to honor the men and women who serve in the shadows and keep us safe. Further inspiration comes from the international community and the endless amounts of dangers and threats we face.
Of all the characters you’ve created, which one would you like to see come alive on the silver screen? No doubt about this one…………the lead character named Michael Brennan. He is real, shows emotion, and is not a “superman” character who kills everything in his path. He is deliberate and cautious but kills when necessary. He is a man of many strengths and flaws.
What is the funniest thing to happen to you in your career? Do you have a few hours? I would say looking back that one of them has to be when I was on a golf course in Texas. I was driving the golf cart and decided to swerve and miss a duck. Well……we ran into a deep puddle and got soaked. Needless to say, my buddy didn’t speak to me for five minutes…but then burst out in laughter.
Can you tell us a bit about your book? Into The Shadows Assassination Corps is the second book in the Michael Brennan spy series. The publisher’s description is as follows…Michael Brennan is back and joined by John Dearlove, a career British MI6 operative. China has fired a new missile toward an American spy satellite in high earth orbit. A few days later, North Korea fires an intercontinental ballistic missile nearly four hundred kilometers off the coast of Hawaii. The President wants answers and orders the CIA to investigate. After a joint operation is approved between London and Washington, DC, Michael Brennan and John Dearlove arrive in China. What they soon uncover is a deadly organization once thought to have perished in 1912. The Assassination Corps has plans to cripple China’s Communist party, including a daring attack on North Korea’s reclusive leader. Will Michael and John survive their deadly encounter with the mysterious organization?
What is your next big project? I’m now working on book 3…it takes place in the Middle East, Asia and the tri-border region in South America. The plot involves the use of VX transferred from North Korea.
Anything else you’d like to add? Thank you very much for allowing me to share a bit about the books. It’s an honor and I truly hope your readers decide to purchase one or more of them. I can be reached at www.michaelbradybooks.com.
