BACK TO SCHOOL SPLASH

Sugar Sand Park Community Center celebrates the end of summer vacation with water slides, games, giveaways, prize drawings, and more!  Plus get a sneak peek at our fall programs.  This event is outdoors (weather permitting) and kids will get wet. Recommended for ages 3 and up.  See our website (www.sugarsandpark.org) for details.

SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017

It’s the last two weeks of Summer Programs. We have ten different full day & half day camps to chose from including: drama, film, science, fashion, fun & fitness, and more. SUNDAY FAMILY MOVIE

Enjoy our Sunday family movie in the Maple room. Please see our website (www.sugarsandpark.org) for movie titles.  The 2pm show is sensory friendly for individuals with sensory processing disorders.

Classes for Adults:

 

SENSES OF CINEMA-FILMS FOR THOUGHT           Ages 18 & up

Shelly Isaacs, founder of Café Cinematheque screens award winning movies, and follows with a  brief discussion and Q&A session.  Enjoy both classic and contemporary films across many genres.

Dates: Wednesdays, August 2, 9, 16       Time: 6:30pm-9:15pm      Cost: Per session Residents $12; Non-Resident $15

 

Classes for Children & Teens:

 

TOT TIME            Ages 1-4

A great way to keep your child active and social.  Toys, costumes, bubbles, crafts, and snacks in an indoor playroom.  Drop-ins welcome at any time during the program.

Dates: Saturday, August 19              Time: 10am – 12pm        Cost: $5 per child (payable at the door)

Family Shows:

GARY GOODMAN’S FAMILY COMEDY MAGIC SHOW Presented by Gary Goodman Gary Goodman’s Family Comedy Magic Show features amazing illusions such as ‘The Chair Suspension’, ‘Snow Illusion’, and ‘The Talking Picture’.  Through hilarious audience interaction, and fun, upbeat music, this show is ‘jaw-dropping ’til the very end!  Children’s tickets include juice & cookies after each performance, and a carousel token.

SENSORY-FRIENDLY SATURDAYS

Explore the museum in a sensory modified setting with sound and lighting adjustments.

SCIENCE STORIES   

Hear great stories with a science twist.

Dates: Saturday, August 5, 12, 19, 26   Time: 11:30am        Cost: Free

 

MAKE & TAKE    Ages 5 & up (with parent)

Kids will learn about a specific topic and build something fun to take home.  Supplies are limited so arrive early.

Date: Sunday, August 6     Time: 11:30am –12:30pm      Cost: $5 (drop-in)

 

Eyes to the Skies  Ages 8 & up (with parent)

This month we feature STARLAB Night, where kids will experience the Solar System in our indoor planetarium.

Date: Friday, August 18    Time: 6:30pm  Cost: Free

 

SCIENCE DEMOS   

Dates: Saturday, August 19-20    Time: 3:30pm    Cost: Free

 

SOLAR ECLIPSE

Join the Explorium Staff for free make & takes, science demonstrations, and special glasses to view the solar eclipse, the first total eclipse in the contiguous United States since 1979.  A solar filter will also be attached to our professional-grade 16” Meade Cassegrain telescope for safe viewing. In the event of  poor weather, the Explorium will live stream the event, and all other activities will still take place.   See our website (www.scienceexplorium.org) for details.
