image15th Annual Shriek Week Kids’ Scary Film Festival

Do you have a young filmmaker in the family? The 5th Annual Shriek Week Kids’ Scary Film Festival is a great project for the kids.  Kids ages 6-17 can submit their short scary movie for a chance to win prizes and have their film shown at Shriek Week 2016. Get your friends & family involved today!  All short films must be submitted by September 23.  See our website ( for details.

Sugar Sand Park Community Center Juried Art Exhibition

Sugar Sand Park’s 10th Annual Juried Art Show, “Land, Sea and Air” showcases emerging and professional artists in various mediums that can include paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, glass and more.

Enjoy our Sunday family movie in the Maple room. Please see our website ( for movie titles.  The 2pm show is sensory friendly for individuals with sensory processing disorders.

Classes for Adults:


DRAW LIKE AN ARTIST           Ages 18 & up

Learn about various artists and their works in this unique drawing class. Participants will learn the art techniques needed to create their own piece based on each style.  This class will focus on collage art by artist Romare Bearden.  All supplies are included.

A great way to keep your child active and social.  Toys, costumes, bubbles, crafts, and snacks in an indoor playroom.  Drop- ins welcome at any time during the program.

KINDERMUSIK WITH MISS CATHY            Ages 4 & under

Maestro Cathy Hazard walks children through the introductory levels of song, dance, and instruments.  Rhythm and melody are taught in a fun and positive way that will get your child excited about learning and understanding all avenues of music.

Dates: Wednesdays, September 14-October 12; September 14-December 14

Thursdays, September 15-October 13; September 15-December 15

Times: Wednesdays 9:30-10:15am (Newborn-16 mos.); 10:30-11:15am (16 mos.-2.5 yrs.); 11:30am-12:15pm (13 mos.-22 mos.)

Kids put on their artist’s cap in this class! Art fosters creativity and fine motor skills. Children will have the opportunity to use various art materials to create their own unique artwork. Each day will have the same theme with different projects for morning and afternoon sessions. All supplies included. Full days require a brown bag lunch

THE THREE LITTLE CIRCUS PIGS Presented by Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth Step right up! Come one; come all to The Crackling Brothers, Boarnum & Pigfeats Circus. In this comic retelling of the traditional story, an unexpected hero just might come and save the day!  Each child’s ticket includes cookies & juice served in the lobby after the performance.  Tickets required for everyone, regardless of age.  Rated G Dates: Saturday, September 10      Time: 11am & 2pm     Cost:  $8 adults; $6 kids 12 and under

MAKE & TAKE    This Month:  Solar Powered Car

Kids learn about engineering and the energy of the sun to build solar powered cars.  Supplies are limited so arrive early.

Friday NIGHT at the museum    Ages 7-12

Hang out “after hours” with the Explorium staff, enjoy pizza, watch a movie, and conduct a science experiment.

Eyes to the Skies    Ages 8 & up (with parent)

This month take a closer look at the moon, Mars, and Saturn.

Sugar Sand Park Community Center’s Shriek Week celebrates its 12th year of sharing scares with two weekends of hair raising Halloween family fun.  Attractions include our themed haunted house (Florida Tourist Traps), trackless train rides, an LED Giant Robot show, magic acts, and food vendors. Shriek Week “Lite Nite” is geared for kids ages 5-12 and will be a less intense version of the haunted house.  Reserve you space early…time slots do sell out.
