Sugar Sand Park Community Center holds Especially for Kids event

Sugar Sand Park Community Center celebrates the 4th annual Especially for Kids Family Event, for kids with special needs and abilities and their families, on Saturday, May 19 from 5:30-8:30pm. Family members may pre-register for this free event online.

Especially for Kids occurs after the Community Center closes to the public, and opens back up for registered guests to enjoy exclusive “after hours” access. Activities will include:

  • The Children’s Science Explorium exhibits
  • science demonstrations
  • glitter tattoos
  • arts & crafts
  • photo booth
  • resource fair
  • dance room
  • and more.

New this year, and by request from past guests, will be an outdoor petting zoo. Animals will be kept in their cages for kids to reach in and pet, and accommodations will be made for those with physical restrictions.  Additionally, families can enjoy the beautifully expanded Science Garden, carousel rides, and the inclusive 3-story science playground.  Each guest will also receive food tickets for pizza and a snow cone.

To best accommodate guests, sound modifications will be made at the Explorium and the carousel, (which has a wheelchair lift); a quiet room will be available in the community center; and registration spaces will be limited.

“This is by far one of our favorite events here,” said Stacee Lanz, Special Events Coordinator. “The families that attend are always so happy, and that positive feeling carries through to everyone else either attending or working the event.”

Pre-registration is required online only at www.sugarsandpark.org/special-needs-programs, by at least one-day prior for all family members attending the event.  Visit our website or call 561-347-3900 for additional information.
